Quoin, it appears, are a Prague-based (at least temporarily for the making of this record) four piece identified only by their initials and who appear to fit in with a not-quite-connected scene of bands in and around London made up of exiles from the capital's lo-fi/punk/hardcore axis from around 2009 or so. If iI say the name Mosquitoes, Germ Lattice, Middex, I Can I Can't, and so on, you'll take the meaning, anti-formalist, no-wave (but not really) units that stretch song and sound in unconventional directions while retaining something ostensibly punk at heart. Good Outward is a reliable home for this kind of fair, and Quoin are right on the button, a noxious miasma of no-song detunings and psychoactive squall, sort of like The Shadow Ring gone up in a big puff of smoke. This Heat likely rarely strays far from their respective record players, and there's a similar freeform sense of atonal application at work here, the kind of music you like to hear when you're bored of what everyone else tells you is 'music'. May these kinds of infernal rumblings never cease.
