Another two statements of profound simplicity plucked from Maxine Funke's seemingly endless reserves of down-home wholesomeness. More closely resembling the songs that comprise the A side of her latest album rather than the experimental instrumentals of its B, 'Clear' and 'Saturdays' stand as classic sounding Funke compositions, homespun and imtimate, gesturing towards some kind of Greater Truth but crucially, as always, choosing to show instead of tell. Evidence, once again, of still vastly underrated singular voice.
