Back in stock - England's hidden avant-dub reverse! Three records no home should be without back in print for 2023 thanks to Staubgold, a label who have been graciously digging around in this kind of secret history for an age now. General Strike, Vivien Goldman, and associated parent act The Flying Lizards collectively form an alternative history of British post punk and DIY activity, charged by punk's firebrand call to action but fit with a uniquely worldly mindset that led to distinctly singular statements. You could feasibly argue that Goldman's Private Armies is THE quintessential post punk moment, polemical, innovative and resourceful in such a way so as to feel definitive of a point in music that was highly diffuse. No mean achievement. Danger in Paradise isn't short of highpoints either, but it's still one of those unpredictable, venturing records that only makes sense within the context of itself. And the Secret Dub Life of The Flying Lizards remains a landmark moment for autodidactic practice, studiously edited, looped and sequenced from hours of uncredited tapes into one of the best party records of then or now. If you've yet to, i recommend acquainting yourself with all three now.
