Who put the zine in April Magazine?
Collection of art works by Peter Hurley (April Magazine).
Having only previously been available at an event in San Francisco last month, it's a privilege to be able share a handful of copies of this 36 page zine produced by April Magazine's Peter Gray Hurley. Hurley's music is something we've long shown an appreciation for, though his artwork is of equally wondrous measure, and this publication collects together a number of his paintings, line drawings and photos. You'll likely recognise the illustration style from posters and artwork associated with a few notables from the current crop of Bay Area bands (Hurley's cover for the most recent Cindy album is a personal favourite), while the geometric abstraction of the paintings remind me of a monochromatic Partrick Heron, which is some company to be keeping IMO. Most interesting for me, though, is that this imagery adds another layer of intrigue to the mysterious universe Hurley is propagating with his band, one clearly an extension of the other and vice versa. I'm considering Parasol a vital piece of the Cult of April. Now, more music soon, please...
