Rare appearance for Opal's one and only album, a half Velvets, half Neil Young-indebted work of melancholic wonder that stands as such a compelling blueprint of early dreampop that it would sound as equally at home on 4AD as it did Rough Trade. Opal were outliers in the neo-psychedelic paisley underground and are perhaps best known for being the band Mazzy Star became once Kendra Smith left and Hope Sandoval joined. Obvs MS are a gold standard, but that this remains both out of print and relatively unavailable online is a minor travesty. Stark, evocative, emotionally open songwriting that makes a different kind of star of Kendra Smith. This one's in great condition, too.
