Handmade CD-r that comes with a handwritten poem by Juho Toivonen. Each poem is unique.
New and old Juho Toivonen unite on this short-form, three song CD-r issued on his own Akti imprint. Keen listeners will note that the final track here, 'Enne', originally featured on last year's Sisarusten Toistuva Uni LP for Discreet. Why Toivonen has chosen to revisit the track in this context is unclear, but who are we to question the whims and desires of the artist anyway? What is undeniable is how well the three recordings hang together, an expertly interconnected suite of pastoral lo-fi ambience built from tape hiss rain and looped acoustic guitar that stresses just as much affiliation with Planet Records or Kranky as it does the modern Scandinavian underground from which it was birthed. Toivonen has a rare ear for texture, tone and pacing, one that seems to improve and evolve with each release. Perhaps, then, the call back to 'Enne' is nothing but an aesthetic consideration - the right sounds, in the right order, in the right context. Across however many releases it is now in the last three years, we've evidence enough to know to trust in Toivonen's instincts. Lo-fidelity yes, highly informed even more so.
