There's always more Omar S, but this one's really turned my head. Omar's been spreading the production work all over in recent times, yet this deliciously nostalgia-inducing collab with Drive OST superstars, Desire, wasn't something i saw coming. Perhaps it's because the Italians Do It Better world has always felt so self-contained and hermetic, or maybe it's because their star's not really been in the ascendancy these past few years... Either way, this is way more Omar then it is Johnny Jewel - i mean, it's quintessentially Omar's Detroit - so i'm assuming it's just Desire's Megan Louise that's shown up to contribute. You get her vocal presence on the A, and the instrumental on t'other side. Desire aren't named so for nothing, and that sultry, smokey vocal is a perfect foil for Omar's characteristic 'body music' (if you know what i mean). Sounds instantly classic and out of time, a master at work, spreading the good word the same way he's done forever. For my money, it betters anything on the recent You Want/Fuck Resident Advisor collections, and sits comfortably alongside the mega The Best. As you can guess, i'm a little more than committed to this one.
