Jonnnah - Me, With You

Having rubbed shoulders with Ben Bondy, DJ Special Guest and Purelink on their first two releases, relatively new Glasgow label co:clear keep on keeping good company with this second LP by Jonnnah that also features the very esteemed talents of Pavel Milyakov. This isn't a full blown collaborative effort - Milyakov is only credited on the first track, a suitably moody dreamer with Kranky-like soft angles, but there's a reason why he's here in any capacity. The Lyon-based producer makes the kind of slightly agitated, dreampop-laced ambient-techno that's got a little of both West Mineral and Buttechno in its DNA, while also leaning unashamedly into the kind of sensual minimal electronics that was de rigueur in the early part of this century - think some parts Junior Boys, some parts Kompakt Pop. No doubt I'd liked to have heard more elsewhere of whatever magic it is Milyakov conjures on that opener, but what we are left with is a smartly produced, sharply realised collection of tracks that reveals a producer with both a keen ear and a spot on set of touchstones.
