Re-run of Micachu's 2014 masterwork released via Demdike Stare's DDE imprint, this time replete with far superior artwork. Feeling Romantic... came the year after Mica Levi's score for Under the Skin, and it shows, operating in a similar neo-classical post-industrial zone, but without the Hollywood influence. As such, Levi dials up her one-of-a-kind slip slap slop DIYisms, adding some mulch and crunch to a series of submerged symphonies that go absolutely nowhere you'd expect, and keep bringing you back time and again. It's a headspinner, and makes for a better record. There's a few similarities to Dean Blunt's The Redeemer in what is a kind of debasing of classical motifs into something both challenging and, often, very beautiful. Levi strikes gold more often than not, but with the benefit of time on our side, there might be fair reason to consider this her best to date. A modern classic, no question.
