Retrospective of the entire recorded output of OXZ, an all-female dark wave three-piece from Japan who ran against the grain of mainstream Japanese culture of the time by being just that - women making punk rock, unafraid to provoke through both their appearance and presence. Wild what people were offended by... Musically, they're remarkably accessible, a little West Coast darkness (early Wipers, Middle Class), some of the Raincoats and Au Pairs ramshackle charm, and even a little of first wave Ex, too. Which means: it sounds like great punk rock! Brilliant touch of archival work from Captured Tracks here, as it seems that, outside of a few informed circles, much of this music was near-invisible until now. Highly recommend getting educated on this now.
