Gently cosmic sounding third LP from super-chill Australian duo Wilson Tanner, who continue to trade in a vaguely post-rock-styled form of blues-folk ambient reverie that remains as distinct as it is beatific. The previous two records saw them either lingering in the dust of suburban domesticity or - and perhaps most memorably - aboard a riverboat on Port Phillip Bay. Legends sees them upsticks again to the vineyards of Manon Farm in South Australia and as with those other recordings, the choice of locale finds a way to seep into the songs, twelve instrumentals that cheekily throw a few jabs at 'Australian viticulture' in a way that does nothing to distract from their subtle compositional ingenuity. Certainly this is playful, quixotic music-making both privileged (look up the location, think of how one comes to be there) and on the piss, though it's also undeniably charming and convincing, an idyllic mix of strings, reeds, brass, keys and blissful diegetic sounds. These fellas are living the life, and create a type of song that, on other records as well as here, communicates a captivating sense of environment and experience. It's hard to not be drawn in by such expressions.
