New York City composer and overdubber Mary Jane Leach finally follows 1989's Pipe Dreams with two long-awaited companions, Pipe Dreams II and III, which were recorded in 2023 and 2024. Where the original grew out of hours spent exploring the antiphonal organ at St. Peter's Church in Cologne, these new pieces were built from a series of curated stops choreographed live at Miry Concertzaal in Gent. Both pieces lean into the same vortex-like resonances that made the original so distinctive. Leach is exploring the phenomena between notes rather than the notes themselves here and timing her entries by ear rather than any fixed structure. It makes for total immersion in the organ's raw, physical presence.
