Three releases from Kashual Plastik this week, first out the gate being this perfect split 7" from increasingly mysterious Hüüpnootsche Platen Un Kassetten affiliates, Hypnotic Sleep and The Fulmars. I've a suspicion they're two parts of the same person/people, but no one's handing out instructions round these parts and i suspect they like their water well muddied, so suspicious is how we shall remain. Still, we all contain multitudes, so let's consider them two complimentary iterations from the same hive mind? Cool. There's two tracks from each outfit, which the format dictates must be short and snappy expressions, pure as pissed stained snow. All four tracks get right to the point, that point being post neue deutsche welle lo-fi outthere rock put through a Zickzack mangle on the HS side, and cultish South Island Velvets by way of San Fran worship on the Fulmars flip. They're really talking our language here, even if we've no idea what they're trying to say (there's a lyrics insert here btw, but that's not exactly what i meant). Some things do benefit from standing in the shadows of course, but if they ever decide to stand a little nearer the light, i'd estimate the Fulmars alone might find a good number of eyes staring back at them. Cult status awaits.
