First collection in the Sound Image Series Haroumi Hosono led for Sony in the early 80s, and featuring key contributions from the rest of the YMO crew. The result is a quixotic mix of dizzying new age, jazz playfulness, Japanese exotica and proto electronica utopianism, which both serves to represent a post City Pop evolution and a foreshadowing of the ambient movement that was to characterise much of the Japanese avant garde of the 80s. In short, these fellas did not fuck around.
