Meadow Flower is the debut long player (if you can call it long) of Seattle-based two piece, Star Party, featuring DIY first-timer Carrie Brennan and Gen Pop/Vexx vet, Ian Corrigan. It makes for an incredible combination of fearlessness and sharp execution. Channeling the kind of buzzsaw anti-/pop fuzz guitar attack favoured by Black Tambourine, Shop Assistants, Mary Chain, Tiger Trap et al, Meadow Flower is a carcrash colision of drum machine clatter, Brennan's autodidactic melodicism (which is, may i say, ridiculously consistent across these eight songs) and Corrigan's redline relentlessness. Not a moment of excess. Not a second wasted. Few debuts feel this fully formed, almost as if Brennan and Corrigan have been fatefully working their way to this record all their lives. Like, say, with RP&Ps Glenn Donaldson, it's likely a product of a lifetime spent listening and understanding, developing a reflex for the right thing at the right time. Twee is apparently a thing on TikTok right now, and you can see Star Party pushing some of those buttons, but this is the kind of effortless brilliance that's going to find equal love with the punk and indie heads alike.
