More sounds dredged from sunken lands from the ever reliable Infant Tree universe. Burhlap is Ben Victor Waggett, a peer/occasional collaborator of IT leader and Malvern Brume/The Sprigs mastermind, Rory Salter. Their music shares much common ground, seemingly plugged straight into the same olde soil in an attempt to divine some ancient folk inspiration. Waggett weaves a precious and prettied web of organ, guitar, whistles and found sound, be those Cornish voices or flowing water. The impression is not so much one of creating as it is channeling what's already long been there, hanging in the air waiting to be redirected - perhaps this music blew in off the coastal paths straight in through the door and into Wagget's hands? The 21 minute closer, twenty one minutes of cornish rain on a cabin roof, is just that, and an unusually fitting conclusion to a collection of tracks that feel elemental and primary, even in their modest construction feeling like an expression of something bigger. In that sense, proper environmental music.
