Randy Williams - Pop Secret

Weirdo outsider almost-pop magic par excellence originally released on CD back in the late 90s. Hard to understand the context for this exactly, but perhaps it doesn't need it? Sometimes it's OK to just make a bontempi G-funk indebted KPM record and occasionally scream over the top like you're mildy possessed because that's what you felt like doing. The story goes that this was made in a home studio in San Fran following a two year stay on a military base in Pisa, and then privately distributed in both the US and Italy, the latter explaining how it's ended up in the hands of Lily Records. Defo a Gary Wilson thing going on, and if you said it was the work of Haroumi Hosono or Yasuaki Shimizu in their more playful moments you'd not be a million miles out of town. You could also suggest tha thet more recent Frank Hurricane record also offers some sort of comparison point. But really it seems like Randy Williams is out there on his own. Pop Secret indeed. More very alternative histories to explore...
