Clarence Seti - Jungle Quest

More obscure reissue business from Lily, this time turning their attention to Clarence Seti's early 90s lofi lounge boogie bizzaro-world. I mean, let's start with that title - Jungle Quest. Is that you, Limmy? Ridiculous, brilliant and compleltely incongrous. Which makes it just about the perfect way of framing Seti's music, which, like fellow label release Randy Williams, is seemingly free of context, or at least any context I'm aware of. I've seen a few reviews describe this as library music, which I understand, but also think does this a bit of a disservice. Seti doesn't really seem to be emulating anything else other than his own imagination, and I can't imagine music this wilfully odd sitting in the background of anything. Put a different name on this and you'd get away with calling it the avant garde - imagine this as some adbsurdist iteration of the fourth world canon and it might make a little more sense. Or it could be a Residents offshoot. Or even consider it as a precursor to James Ferraro new world/hyperrealism - the clue is in that title! As it stands, Seti is an outlier, and probably quite a funny one, and it makes for a charming and slightly disorientating experience. More of that please, from everyone.
