After the lo-fi house detour of his recent collab with Samizdat, Michael J. Blood kicks off a new white label series with a trip back to a slightly different kind of dancefloor sound. As on much of his best early work, Blood seems to be in reverential mode here, each side a lengthy single track mix of multiple ideas, caught somewhere between Chicago, New York, and Detroit. The influence of classic Sound Signature, Prescription and Peacefrog is unavoidable, but as always, what makes it shine is how effortless and fluid the whole thing feels. Originality feels less of a concern when the results are so clearly joyous and authentically felt. If you cut Blood, this is what he bleeds.
