The latest dispatch from Manc maverick Michael J. Blood sees him debut for Demdike Stare's DDS imprint with three tracks of modern northern electronics cast in the vision of Detroit in such a way to make a spiritual connection between the two cities. More specifically, there's big nods to the Sound Signature universe of emotionally charged deep house, ala dons Parrish, Pittman and Thomas, but with a gnarliness that elevates the whole affair way beyond smartly-realised reverence. Firstly, these productions feel a little harder hitting and filled out than those early lengthly LPs of edits, the detail just that bit sharper and distinct. You can hear the shift from idea to vision. And secondly, this many releases in in such a short amount of time, it feels a bit unfair to be making any direct comparisons to others - M.J.'s out there world building, roving around his influences and inspirations, and churning out something that feels overtly tied to place and sound (and you gotta wonder what effect Boomkat being in Manchester has had on all of this - respect). Re-make/re-model, and the world is new again.
