Trilogy Tapes swing big here with absolutely one of the best tapes I've heard in quite some time, from them or anyone else. Klara Lewis, an artist already firmly established as someone who never misses, partners with guitarist Yuki Tsuji of Bo Ningen for a singular collection of busted and fevered dynamics that scans as something like Jandek recalibrated by, i dunno, Pan Sonic at their most fractured? Beautiful and broken down in equal measure, Lewis applies perfectly abstracted shading to Tsuji's poised expressions, the crackle of digital dissonance and process making alien the more 'real' sounds of the guitar. And that's the killer blow right there - the interplay of the acoustic and the synthetic, the supposed real and otherwise, where spotting the difference misses the point entirely. Huge tip for anyone who might have once daydreamed about a Keiji Haino record on Editions Mego.
