OK, more Spillage Fete archive material. And i've really no idea how there's still copies of this one available, given a) it's ten years old(which must make me something like 70?) and b) really very good. Harry Deerness is Kevin Cormack, who also now makes up one third of Bons, and on this self-titled long player pretty much defined the entire Spillage Fete MO in a single expression. Stewart Lee described this as sounding like an 'old people's home entertainer playing Stockhausen', which is funny i suppose, though i'm not sure i know what it means exactly. If i were to guess, i'd assume it's the marriage of the playful with the studious, and Cormack does seem to flit between a desire to explore process - songs come from all angles, out of all sorts of instruments and sounds - and instinctive expression. Take Tullimentan as the prime example, a vertiginous Sebaldian drone of clear weight that shifts in its coda to a radio transmission of faintly debased country music. I think they used to call this kind of thing hauntology. A decade on, it's kinda the folk music of the information age. Comes with a beautiful book of poetry, also. Yes, it's perfect.
