Simultaneously kicking starting 2022 and reigniting the flame of our Inner World series with this gold-standard mix from the oracle mind of Concentric Circles.
We first suggested the idea last year when we received news of their Moon Love reissue, a true essential in a world of frequent pretenders, though near everything Jed Bindemen is involved with turns our lights green - the label as a whole, his connection with Freedom to Spend, the goldmine that is the Little Axe record shop in Portland, and the horizon-expanding Instagram account documenting impossible to find cassettes. No surprise it's a mix full of surprises. A few words from the man himself before you bend your ears around the next hour
"I seem unable to make a mix concentrating on a specific genre of music. Whenever I try to do such a thing, I quickly get sidetracked and go "OOH, but this (totally different thing that makes no sense on the mix) would sound good right here!" and then it's the inevitable journey along moderately disparate sounds. There's always a few concurrent musical obsessions going on in my brain, and lately it's been heavily leaning on 90s lo-fi indie/shuffle and....I don't know what else, but always a smattering of other sounds coming and going from the stereo. So here's a mix of some things that have been sounding good lately, ideally taking you to a very different musical/mental space at the end than you were at an hour before."
