7"
Fairly recognised as Queen of the Long Form after debuting with the 107 track long Songs From My Telephone, Voice Actor’s Noa Kurweil now swings the other way with this sweetly condensed three track 7”. Her second album surprisingly saw her switch collaborators, and she’s once again working with different producers here, namely Winkate (new to me), who gets two on the A, and Lukid (also one half of Rezzett, you may recall), who gets a lengthier cut on the B. Each takes a different run at the role - the former aiming for uncanny dreamstate electronics by way of West Mineral, the latter mutating hardcore into something more distinctly analog and braindance coded, but Kurweil remains the binding tie. Her voice and words appear in a disorientating plume of quasi-AI surrealism and SatNav directions as if they were a cultural studies TED Talk about desire, the human body and architecture. Which is either dead on the money or I’m way off course, and I’d imagine both are absolutely acceptable ways of feeling about music that somehow feels both highly romantic and deeply skeptical of this toxic world. A 7” is never quite enough for music like this, but still offers proof that Kurweil, regardless of who she works with, remains possessed of a very unique artistic vision.
