Perfect scene-capturing tape compilation that seems to have mostly only been available at shows. Since we're based in neither San Francisco or Tokyo, it's Clover Records Masako we have to thank for dropping these off recently. Thankful we truly are given all of the tracks provided by the San Fran contingent - Tony Jay, Mister Baby, Kasty Pline and Rick Altieri - were made specifically for the tape, a couple of which are right up there with their very best. And honestly, there can never be enough Mister Baby music in the world - the kind of lo-fi, deeply felt pop music that seems both eternal and highly specific. In a parallel dimension, Kati's songs are immensely famous (take me to that world now). Great, also, to hear so many underground Japanese artists channelling a very similar set of feelings - with special mention for Pervenche, who seem to be a huge driving force behind the alliance - proving if it weren't already clear that the International Pop Underground beats on and heartbreak is as universal as breathing.
