Four artists with four songs that suggest that Gothenburg might not be the only place where it's happening in Sweden right now. We're already well aware of Eternal Music Society, who are about as close as the collection gets to stating an affinity with the Discreet constellation of artists, though their strung out avant rock is a good deal more riff-centric than anything we might have heard from Blod, Sewer Election and the like. The other three names - SLUG MASS, TRUE GRIT and Den Osynliga Manteln - are all new to me, but provide easily recognisable sounds, flitting between International Anthem framed post-rock (Sweden does Chicago doing jazz, ostensibly), skronking stoner rock force, and a kind of Michael Rother indebted repetition-driven folk euphoria. If their sounds all differ, they do still share a penchant for the long-form, seemingly all seeking transcendence through adherence to the three Rs of repetition repetition repetition. There's certainly much worse places to go looking for it. Malmö might well be worth keeping an eye on...
