Triple Vinyl - 2026 essential repress
First issued in 2018 and then again last year in a quick-to-sell-out small edition, Scion Version stays on the right track by keeping in print their 3xLP collection of early Vainqueur cuts, culled from René Löwe’s mid 90s Chain Reaction 12s and Elevations CD. You don’t need me to tell you how in-demand and pivotal the originals of this stuff have now become, essentially the blueprint for so much new electronic music, from West Mineral to Giegling to Short Span and beyond. Löwe may have helped pioneer the dub techno sound, yet these tracks don’t sound hemmed in by the codification, the glassy synth stabs, pitch-shifted vocal surges, and woozy clicks ‘n’ cuts so expertly realised they remain eternally future-facing, making you realise just how generic much of the contemporary equivalents actually are. In short, this is the real deal OG business, as timeless as a folk song, as radical as avant garde minimalism, and as distinctive as anything else from the era. The prosaic nature of the front cover says it all - reduce, refine, repeat. As good as it gets.
