Gothenburg again! But not quite as we've come to expect... Typical Girls, a new GTB band comprised of members from loads of old GTB bands (Agent Bla, Makthaverskan, Westkust) and who you'll remember from that suprisingly sprightly 7" on Happiest Place, return with a second single on New York's Kanine which sounds like early 90s England ala St Etienne, Dubstar++ Which, in case the artwork didn't give it away, means Typical Girls sound very little like the rest of what's happening in their hometown right now. You have to wind back a few years to find where these fit in - this is the turn of the century glossy indiepop of Service, Sincerely Yours et al with a little of the sheen sanded off, but only a very small amount mind you. It's an unusually anchronistic double A side in actuality - throw in a Candyflip remix of Miata and it's the second Summer of Love all over again - and a refreshing turn of pace for it. I doubt this will do much for the Gothenburg Sound Workshop fans out there, but those enamoured with pop's Big Gold Dream will find a lot to love.
