The Shadow Ring's Tim Goss debuts under his own name with this ten song set of electronic abstractions for Penultimate Press. Because it's Goss and because it's been a long dark age since his last output, i was expecting something, well, a lot different to this. Maybe more cerebral or serious, the kinda thing that happens when artists settle into their later years. Well, put me in the bin cos what do i know. Afterfly plays true to TSR lineage by being it's own mess of freakish abstraction, DIY self-determination, and sickly addictive experiment. A set of alternating short and long form electronic excursions that sometimes recall the carrion-grey digital mulch of CIA Debutante and Komare, others the blown-out kraut-noise ecstaticals of Dilloway, McGuire, Hauschildt++ The point of difference is that Goss is a reliable hand when it comes to texture and tone, the weird and the eerie never too far from the surface but still buried enough to catch you by surprise. The in-sound from way fucking in the polluted mind.
