The Threshold HouseBoys Choir - Form Grows Rampant

It's taken a while and now finally Sleazy's semi-legendary and certainly infamous The Threshold HouseBoys Choir album has found it way to our sainted vinyl format. Made in Bangkok following the dissolution of Coil, and released three years before his death, Form Grows Rampant was originally attached to a film Christopherson had shot at the GinJae Vegetarian Festival, said to feature some particularly explicit imagery i've personally little interest in viewing. Thankfully, the music retains a powerful mystique when divorced from this context, even if the trance-like nature of the lengthy compositions does reflect the ceremonies depicted in the film. Early Coil seemed preoccupied with reminding the listener at almost every opportunity that they are a body, of their corporeal form, eating and shitting and fucking. Convserely, much of the latter-period output felt like a partial attempted escape from these things, or to at least exist outside of those limitations, as if presaing its own death. Unsurprisingly, it's these final years from which Form Grows Rampant extends, a five track suite revoling around looped vocal manipulations and electronic undulations, journeying, as ever, into the hypnotic, spiralling night. Other than Coil, it's tricky to imagine many other points of reference. IDM, sort of. Ethno-industrial, a few decades on. I reckon CS+Kreme were listening to Intimations of Spring when they made their last 12". So Free It Knows No End is so rich in auto-tune it could be Kanye. Regardless, it certainly feels ecstatic at times, almost devotional in fact. In which case, i'll call it Full Moon Party Music and be done with the comparisons. Sold out at source.

First released in small quantities in 2007 as a CD/DVD set, this is the first time it is released on vinyl. This reissue has been mastered from original files by Sidney Claire Meyer at former Deutsche Grammophon studios Emil Berliner in Berlin, using the half speed mastering process, and pressed on heavy 180g black vinyl.
