Surface of the Earth - Programme/2.2

Big news at the double for the NZ heads out there - (i) the legendary World Resources label fires back up its engines for the (ii) first new Surface of the Earth material this century. That's A VERY LONG TIME y'know but the first thing you learn is that you always have to wait, so... We get two tracks both coming in at 4:30 on 20 lathe cut 7"s, as is the customary style. If the method of release is in-keeping with the usual WR way of going about matters, then Surface of the Earth are equally on point themselves, time seemingly having taken no toll at all. In fact, you might find it tricky to separate these recordings from their 90s output, maintaining as they do that signature sense of low key menace and unnerving control, nine minutes of storm warning feedback that's about as 3D as noise music gets. In the old recordings, it's alleged you can hear generators or air con units whirring in the background and I've no reason to not assume that the case here, also, conveying as it does a sense of three fellas in modest environs, plugging directly into the Void just to see what they might find. Truly wonderful stuff, a gift, really. If there's any bad news it's that we've only four copies (and they're understandably limited to one per person), otherwise rejoice the return of SOTE and hope for more coming down the line soon.
