Anxious Music, 2019
Another vital dispatch from the US underground, served up by Anxious Music, the partner label to the ever-reliable Night School Records. Special Interest are a New Orleans four piece who deal in the kind of righteous metallic KO we eat up round these parts (when it's not chewing us up and spitting us out). It's a scrappy, angular affair, given structure by the relatively linear drum machines that help anchor their exuberant fury. Hardcore in spirit no doubt, but there's a wildness that belies the formalism of the genre, and shares a commonality with the free-form nature of No Wave and post-Wax Trax style industrial noise. But more wild, more free.
