Double LP
Fittingly titled latest outing from the veteran producer, which might come installed with a few unexpected left turns for long-term fans. Shackleton is nothing if not versatile, his catalogue near-infinite at this stage, and recently filled-out with some killer off-kilter collaborations (Six Organs of Admittance and Holy Tongue two obvious highlights), though the dub-centred manipulations and eruptions of his early work are perhaps his most renowned. Euphoria Bound is, by contrast, more lithe and light-footed, bass-driven as ever, but displaying the kind of agile inflections we might attach to Principe, the tech-y invention of Autechre at their least clinical, and even long-time associate Valentina Magaletti's fluid polyrhythms on Kansai Bruises (also an AD93 release). Dare we describe this as playful? It's certainly verging on psychedelic, and definitely omnivorous in its array of vocal glitches and maximalist arrangements. Took a minute to arrive on vinyl having been out digitally for a month or two, but it's timed well for the blooming of spring. An undoubted joy.
