I asked it then and i'll ask it again: how much is too much Glenn Donaldson? The answer is not enough. And it's just as well, since we've managed to secure a handful of copies of the long sold-out double LP edition of the latest Reds, Pinks and Purples album which includes evermore music from the most bottomless of all bottomless wells. Disc one is the eleven tracks of kitchen-pop confessional melodic wonder you'll already know and love, and disc two contains an additional eleven instrumentals unavailable elsewhere. The result is something like scoring two Felt albums in one: Forever Breathes The Lonely Word and The Seventeenth Century as one totemic magnum opus. The lyrics and the voice are of endless appeal to me, but the instrumentals are by no means lessened by their absence. On the contrary, they reinforce just how expressive a player Donaldson is, able to conjure melancholy and desire from those same six strings you thought long-exhausted. A highwater mark moment. Edition of 600, sold out everywhere else for months now.
