Philipp Otterbach - Correct Me If I Am Incorrectly You

Hot on the heels of The Dahlem Diaries LP released via Music From Memory this summer, comes this latest collection from Berlin producer, Philipp Otterbach. The shift to Offen seems to precipitate a change in approach for Otterbach, moving away from the more song-based dreamy compositions of that first record to something altogether more experimental. The track titles seem to indicate a range of dates spanning from 1992 to 2021, though it's unclear if these are instructive denotations of when the songs were recorded or referencing a wider, more abstract concept. They certainly span a sonic range in keeping with the time stamps, broadly fitting into what i'm reluctantly going to label a 'post-kraut' sound that explores motorik percussion, ambient drones, post-industrials electronics, and komische-driven psychedelia. It's perplexing stuff taken all at once, fitting of a title that suggests its own kind of perverse assimilation. Not too sure who Otterbach is, but it's no less enjoyable trying to find out.
