More absurdly obscure work from the An'Archives stable, this time turning their attention to the work of Mura, a teenage three-piece from Sapporo who i'll be very surprised if anyone reading this had previously heard of. The education continues... The music Mura made is what you might conventionally understand as 'indie' - guitar, bass, drums, gestures towards melodicism - but is passed through a mutant lens of Hosono-influenced genre-baiting perversity, more traditional Japanese cultural history & song, and an inevitable give-a-fuck playfulness only afforded by youth. Outside of Japan, there's little context for how this sounds tonally, even if structurally it retains some similar hallmarks, though it's singular nature might hark back to the fearless expressions of someone like Jad Fair or The Frogs (lyrical content i can't speak for). Unique transmissions no doubt. Edition of 385.
