7"
Final transmission from radio Mosquitoes in the form of this two track 7" on Digital Regress, a bittersweet swansong all things considered. Listening to the free jazz meets Suicide psychic emissions of the A side, you can't help thinking there was a fair bit more to give before they knock it on the head. The 7" is a curious format for a band like Mosquitoes - like with jazz, too, actually - since it feels insufficient to contain the range and ambition. Or maybe it's just that i'm pining for more of what i can't have? That said, Mosquitoes do tend to make rather suggestive (rather than explicative) gestures. A lot and not very much seems to happen in their music, here the aesthetics of noise and minimalism locked in unwinnable battle. The short-form nature of these tracks references their earlier releases, by accident or design, which i suppose represents a circularity of sorts, completing their own distinct ellipse, which still looks pretty bloody inscrutable. And so, cheerio Mosquitoes, we hardly knew ye. I imagine that's the way you intended it to be all along.
