Despite years of significant activity, Suite is only the second solo release by Monica Brooks, following the excellent 'You'll Sit On This Stone' LP released in 2020.
Altered States is truly proud to present this 47 minute collection.
As well as regularly collaborating with seminal figures of the Sydney experimental community; Laura Altman, Jim Denley and Chris Abrahams among them, Brooks is an accordionist in avant-collective, Great Waitress.
Suite is a collection of delicate, yet undeniably powerful, portals of piano minimalism. In my limited knowledge of this aural pocket, I immediately connect Mon's sound to the phenomenal (sole) solo release of Su Tissue. But also no stretch to hear in Suite the miniature worlds built by Sakamoto, Satie and The Necks.
Vivid swirls of colour are conjured by Mon's arps, whipping up winds to carry the listener elsewhere. Like the tides, there are moments of serenity, but also of unpredictable turbulence.
