Model Home & NAPPYNAPPA - One Year

Mega head-spinning compilation culled from the eight mixtapes issued to date by the Washington DC duo, who skirt some wild line of weird dub energy, abstract lo-fi beats and hyper, technicolour lyricism. Avant-leaning hip hop is having an overground moment right now with MiKE, JPEGMAFIA, El-P's production work, (and at a stretch) Danny Brown etc and you can push Model Home sideways and possibly screaming into that same space, and there's a minor debt here to the clusterfuck punk energy of Death Grips. But there's a reason this has ended up on Disciples (also responsible for that recent Phew cassette) - don't come here looking for hooks. Production wise, this is about as irregular shaped and fractured as modern music gets right now, a Pollock-like everything-all-the-time approach to sound and form married to tangent-leaping, drunk-savant lyricism, a true child of the internet in that sense. Hell, consider it ADHDesthetic, a poster child for the 21st Century full stop. The music we were always promised. And in a lot of ways, the obvious next evolution of the DC punk ethos (you'll struggle to find much else this disc(h)ordant...). First few copies come with a free, super limited mixtape. Vital business.
