Reissue of Minoru Fushimi's frankly absurd debut single from 1983, originals of which now trade for, yep you got it, frankly absurd amounts of money (if you can find it etc etc). Both sides comprise of covers of two Enka classics, Fushimi said to be paying tribute to Japan's musical heritage while attempting to bring the music to a modern audience. Funnily enough, what he does to these songs might quite easily be considered sacrilege, mutated as they are into warped electro-funk stompers that were likely as alienating to younger ears as they were old. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. What i hear now is something not a million miles away from Gary Wilson's sleazy basement disco (and i can imagine the LA Ariel Pink set have all heard this a few times), music that feels atuned to its own ears only, true outsider pop in that sense. As odd sounding and offkilter as ever, you might consider this the ideal weirdo soundtrack for the weirdest year in quite sometime...
