metta-world-peace-the-sun-will-inherit-the-earth
Metta World Peace - The Sun Will Inherit The Earth

Metta World Peace is the nom de plume of French artist and filmmaker Pierre Edouard Dumora, and The Sun Will Inherit the Earth the second collection of songs to appear under the chosen moniker (which must be some esoteric reference to the basketball player of the same name for reasons that remain appropriately unresolved). Dumora’s film work has shown at a number of esteemed institutions and festivals, and his roots in the art world are manifest clearly in the music he makes, which embraces a range of left-turns, collaborations and heterogeneous inspirations. It’s a somewhat tricky record to categorise as a result, an array of dreamy, glassy and ultimately psychedelic electronics and spoken word samples that draw on krautrock, ambient, post-punk and trip hop without really qualifying as any of those things. At times both maximalist and motorik, it’s nonetheless when Dumora’s arrangements are at their more restrained and/or ethereal that The Sun Will Inherit the Earth is at its strongest, operative in that OPN-defined space of liminal electronic music that’s a bit uncanny and unsettling, a post-internet fourth (or is it fifth?) world of digital synthesis. And if you needed any further reason to investigate, 2026’s most present Thomas Bush even appears on track three. You know what to do.

FFO: Oneothrix Point Never, Boards of Canada, Malibu, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0051/1380/6921/files/MettaWorldPeace-TheSunWillInheritTheEarth.jpg?v=1793724337
