Second collaborative effort from 12th Isle label boss Stewart Brown and percussionist Pike, on which the pair venture out into the kind of dub-jazz-kraut synthesis we've not really heard the likes of since the final Tomaga recordings. That comparison gives you a pretty spot on navigation of the explorative mindset of these two, loose-limbed, supple and genre agnostic in ways that seem very well suited to the arena of performance. Indeed, the six tracks were conceived around preparations for appearances at both Oto and The Three Wheel Drive festival, adding a sense of both physicality and freeness. They cite Nurse With Wound as an influence, though I've more a sense of their fabled list than their own actual recordings, Rain & Cymbals driven by a very European sense of the avant and outre, not too far off the Les Disques Omnison output, a second wave Vox Populi or an ON U SOUND take on a Tapioca recording. Highly inventive, informed and playful, the spirit is very well attuned on this one.
