The result of one almighty collaboration between some of the finest jazz musicians out there and five legendary producers, ‘Where We Come From’ is a thrilling listen from the start, bringing together an ingenious collision of styles and sounds.
Over the course of 3 days in London, drummer/producer Makaya McCraven and a first-class group of collaborators (Theon Cross, Nubya Garcia, Joe Armon-Jones, Soweto Kinch, Ashley Henry, Daniel Casimir and Kamaal Williams) gave two improvised performances as part of the CHICAGOxLONDON showcase. The following Sunday afternoon five producers (LeFtO, Ben LaMar Gay, Quiet Dawn, Earl Jeffers & Don Leisure) were invited to participate in an event they did live remixes of the recordings. Remixes by Emma-Jean Thackray and Lexus Blondin were added to the mix, at which point Makaya took everything back to his Chicago home studio – chopping and remixing the music into two continuous suites for this CHICAGOxLONDON mixtape.
