Lend Me Your Underbelly is one man unit Christian Berends, formerly active in the black metal scene, but now exploring the more introverted aspects of drone and, as the title might suggest, folk(lore - it is black metal in origin after all). I think he's nearly ten records deep at this stage. It's not fashionable to say right now, but there's an identifiable kinship with early Constellation (Polmo Polpo, Fly Pan Am, Exhaust et al, though beatless) in how slow-moving though expressive and rich it sounds. You could perhaps liken it to some of the late 90s Kranky stable. And like all the best ambient/drone, for something so minimal there's a broad spectrum of ideas and references that are subtly rendered - mandolins, acoustic guitars, east asian instrumentation, electronics, there's a lot going on, and it takes a sophisticated ear to unbusy all that. And honestly, it's just a pleasure to listen to, emotional and fluid and loose enough to not let the technical virtuoisty (which is impressive) crowd the vibe. Same label as the Ô Paradis and just as necessary in its own right. Preview link here
