Kimihide was first a medical student with an interest in anatomy, a not incidental biographical detail when considering the probing, experimental approach he was taking here to both synthpop aesthetics and the emergent technology that was making that sound possible. This isn't clinical so much as it is inquisitive - a kind of let's-cut-it-open-and-see-what-we've-got mentality that suggests eyes and ears were as much guided towards the early Steel City sounds of Human League, Clock DVA and Cabaret Voltaire as they were the much-closer-to-home tecno-pop march of YMO and autodidactic activities of Vanity Records. First album, Re-Musik, is perhaps the most obvious adherent to that blueprint, lo-fi, linear and primitive, but also melodically sussed and certainly more on the side of the former in the ebullient\/dystopian synthpop binary. Demise Symphonika switches to the long form and states more of an affinity with Throbbing Gristle styled civilisation wrecking as well as foreshadowing a little of that great Japanese tradition of noise music. Both records feel interlinked in their collective surveying of the electronic underground of the time. Third LP, Requiem in the Sun, is slightly more curious, an almost Soviet sounding militarised stomp laden with cold war dread and histrionic flair.
