More dreamstate European elegance from the ever rewarding archives of Jan Van De Broeke. Time and Desire follows two previous JVDB compilations issued by Stroom and EE, and like those collections draws upon various recordings under different aliases (June 11 and Canto De Mudo), spread across a mostly undefined timeline - it's not clear if these date from the 80s or are contemporary experiments. Most likely both. No matter, really, since Van De Broeke has an aesthetic well and truly nailed down at this point, one that seems to defy time-based linearity. Time and Desire drifts in on a vaporous cloud, caught in the inbetween of... well, i'm not sure exactly... The conscious and unconscious world, perhaps? These tracks are a little less focused on the minimal wave of his work as The Misz, instead favouring new age, dreamy ambience, often driven by female spoken-word contributions that could either be transmissions from purgatory or instructions from self-help tutorials (though you might argue that it's purgatory from where self-help tutorials originate). Beguiling, head in the clouds outta body business. Fans of Pablo's Eye, the K. Leimer collection on RVNG, Jason Kolar, Enno Velthuys, Adult Fantasies et al would do well to check in here.
