Produced by Haroumi Hosono and originally released on his Yen imprint in '83, the reissue of Inoyamaland's debut might be somewhere close to what we all need right now, if we're to follow the label copy at least - "holding that mysterious power of music that makes life a little easier and happier". A concept we can all get behind right now. There's truth in it, too. Hosono's touch is all over this, the spirit of idealism central to his 70s solo work is loud and clear evn if the extrovertism is dialed back. More new age than ambient, which for me is the principle difference that separates Inoyamaland from their Kankyo Ongaku contemporaries. I file this music in the 'music for a disturbed spirit' section. Escapism for self-isolation? There's worse ideas.
