Arriving mid-February
Great news - a third record from Rotterdam-by-way-of-Gronnigen group Hun Bed about the majesty and mechanics of bread, a topic of great import i'm sure we can all agree on (joyless 'wellness' advocates be gone). Unlike the two more conventionally structured collections that preceded it, Brood III consists of a single 18 minute track, 'klierachtig worden ze ervan', which roughly translates as 'they become glandular', a title that tells me very little about bread and a whole lot about the idiosyncrasies of the music makers themselves. It's quite the journey too, beginning as a soft-focus avant blues lament that patiently enfolds into a coda of layered fielding recordings, shimmering guitar tones and xylophone chimes, a subtle rendering part Ignatz, part Tortoise, and mostly the sound of a band running with an idea until the next one. Is this what they call 'jamming'? And why bread? Looking for answers might not prove fruitful, so best to enjoy it's whimsy and good natured charm. Holland seems to be where it's at for such things right now. And if you wanna compare and contrast, we've also copies of Brood II here, also. Bloody hell, a Bread Triptych! What a time to be (barely) alive.
