7" (reissue) of the year? Yes, I'm one for grand gestures, but it's a real killer this. I thought the Dutch minimal wave scene had been mined to death, and then comes along this double AA of, what I understand, were previously unreleased - or impossible to get hold of - sad-eyed lonely soul synth pop heartbreakers with a little erotic charm. Connected with the Radionome VPRO scene, but this isn't on quite the same tip - there's an errie, uncanccy wonkiness not necessarily characteristic of the more high NRG & new wave focus of their peers. Hessel Veldman's 'Boezem Ballet' is a woozy weirdo waltz, that I can imagine really getting Dean Blunt heated up. Lovely bit of bedroom paranoia. As good as it is, Enno Velthuys steals the show, coquettishly intoning about watching porn like a sex-ed up Carol. Dng dong, Stroom does it again. I've listened to both sides four times in a row today. I got it bad. You can, too.
