A mere handful of minutes after our Music For Desert Reboot reissue and just a few more before their performance at Expected Music on 8th November, the TRi/ii/j/jj Compiler is back with new collaborative project GUU and more of that entirely unique, zonked-out fourth world improv. Who this is in collaboration with has not been revealed, though it's unmistakably born of the mind of said chief Compiler, Max Stocklosa, and feels decidedly at home in Tax Free's realm of wonkadonk quixotica. Hard to ascertain just what it is that makes the TRi/ii/j/jj so appealing, though Stocklosa's forays into fine art are revealing - the details here are absurdly on point, from the layered sampling and creaking hardware, to the hard-to-pin down fog of alien rhythms and gooey melodies. it's the kind of time-dilated, psychoactive electronic experimentation that twists the squarewave frequencies into an lemniscate ouroboros. If you've ever lusted after a Jon Hassell union with imperial-era Warp, then GUU might just be enough to help you get your rocks off, or at least help you get lost in time trying to figure out how to make it happen.
